It's {Almost} Fall Y'all!

Dr. Kristin Reed

Fall Leaf Colors with Girl Wearing Glasses

I can’t believe we are already through the Back-to-School Season and we are heading out of August and in to September. That means it’s almost time for football, pumpkin spice everything, campfires, and a sweet new addition to the ModernEyes Eyecare & Eyewear Family! If you’ve been in the office recently, you’ve probably noticed that I’m expecting baby #2 in just a few short weeks. Josh, Brayden (our almost 5-year-old son), and I are all anxiously awaiting baby’s arrival.  Even though I’m typically a planner, Josh and I have decided to not find out if this little one is a boy or girl-you’ll have to stay tuned for the announcement sometime in September. With all of the upcoming excitement, we wanted to update you on some things coming up.

New Baby Reed, Coming Soon!

First, I’ll be taking some time away from the office to bond with new baby. Dr. Anna Thompson will be here on Mondays, Tuesdays, and approximately every other Saturday to help keep up with anyone who might need seen while I am gone. Dr. Thompson lives here in Omaha and is a mother of two sweet kiddos. She brings a lot of kindness and experience to us, and is great with kids. I’m sure you will like her if you have the opportunity to meet her. In any case, we don’t live far, so I’ll probably be in and out baby-wearing and staying up to date on all the happenings here even before I’m back seeing patients again.

OneSight Omaha Clinic 2018

Second, while I’m on leave, I’ll also be participating in the third OneSight Clinic in Omaha. This year, we will be focusing on the resettlement (think refugees) population, as well as Omaha Public Schools (OPS) students who have failed vision screenings. OneSight provides comprehensive exams and glasses to those in need. Refugees to Omaha receive healthcare for 6 months upon their entry to the United States, but after that, don’t have much support. The tough thing for many of these people is that the first six months is spent getting their body and dental work taken care of, and vision gets put on the back burner. As we all know, time flies, and then before they know it, they don’t have vision coverage unless they’ve secured a job already. It’s pretty hard to work successfully if you can’t see, so OneSight wanted to step in and do something about it.

Design-A-Frame Contest for Kids!

Third, one of our frame lines, DB4K (David Benjamin 4 Kids), is hosting a super cool contest. If your kiddo would like to enter to design a pair of glasses, print off this page (PDF for easy printing), design away, and return it to the office by 09/25/2018. The winners will be announced in October 2018 and will receive a free pair of their winning frame, a canvas print of their frame design, and a db4k prize package. The frame will be produced and part of the 2019 Back-to-School Collection. How cool is that?!

DB4K Design Contest Entry

Last, it’s hard to believe we have been open for almost 2 years. Normally, we’d throw some kind of party, but with a baby quickly approaching, we decided to keep it simple for this year. We appreciate all of your continued support through this adventure. Your referrals to your family and friends are the most sincere compliment you can give to us, and we are grateful to serve you and your family. The second-best compliment you can give is by reviewing us on Facebook, Google, BBB, Yelp, etc.

If I don’t see you before baby, have a great fall and GO BIG RED!
