Path to Optometry

Dr. Reed has wanted to become an optometrist since elementary school. She entered the eye health field during college, working as an ABO-certified optician. She loved helping people select eyeglasses and lenses that fit their needs and adjust eyeglass frames so they fit perfectly. While studying at SCO, she also worked as a lab technician, cutting prescription lenses for glasses. So, if she's not busy with exams, sometimes she sneaks up to the optical and can be found helping people select eyeglass frames even today! One of her greatest passions is making sure that people can see clearly and that they look good and feel confident in their eyewear. That combination of clear vision, healthy eyes, and great eyewear ultimately inspired her to create ModernEyes.

Community & Volunteering

Dr. Reed has been actively involved with the Nebraska Optometric Association throughout her career and serves as Chair of the Nebraska Foundation for Children’s Vision, helping expand access to eye care for children across the state. She has also volunteered with OneSight clinics in China, Washington, Indonesia, and Omaha, including serving as lead optometrist. Through ModernEyes, she continues to donate eye exams and help provide glasses to people in need.

Leadership and Recognition

Dr. Reed is committed to advancing eye care both within ModernEyes and throughout the profession. She completed the Nebraska Optometric Association Leadership Institute in 2018, became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 2020, completed the American Academy of Optometry’s Flom Leadership Academy in 2022, and completed AOA Leadership 2.0 in 2025.

Dr. Reed has served on the Nebraska Optometric Association Board since 2019, including as Vice President in 2024, President-Elect in 2025, and President in 2026. Her professional honors also include the 2020 Practice of Excellence Award from the Hayes Center for Practice Excellence and being named the Nebraska Optometric Association’s 2021 Optometrist of the Year.

In 2026, Dr. Reed was selected to participate in the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Health Care Advisory Region Metro meetings for the Rural Health Transformation Program. Her selection reflects her experience providing on-site eye care in nursing homes across Nebraska and her commitment to ensuring that patients throughout the state—particularly those in rural and underserved communities—have access to quality eye care.

Together, these accomplishments reflect Dr. Reed’s dedication to continued learning, professional leadership, and improving access to care throughout Nebraska.
